As we hit the one month anniversary of our first Tabletop Talks, we thought we would go back to where it all started and add a part two to our first collection of up-and-coming fantasy games. This week we will be bringing you another collection of questing, battling, and world building games that are sure to provide the little bit of escapism we all need this week. So without further adieu, here is Tabletop Talks Fantasy 2: Secrets & Spells

1. Vanguards of the Lost Lands

The fires have been lit, will you answer the call?

Vanguards of the Lost Lands On Tabletop Simulator Online Action RPG

Sometimes there is nothing like getting fully immersed in an RPG. The only thing that might be better is getting fully immersed in a quick action/adventure RPG that rewards strategic thinking and character choices as you battle your way across a post-apocalyptic fantasy landscape. In Vanguards of the Lost lands from Nightshade Entertainment Studios, that's exactly what you can do. In this 1-4 player co-operative RPG, players take on the role of a hero desperately trying to save their village from a monstrous villain by gathering the four elders of the regions. To do this, you must journey across different regions, each with their own unique impacts and narratives. As your quest continues, players must use die-based fighting as well as unique character traits and card mechanics to reach the final villain for an epic, fate-deciding showdown. Whether you're looking for sweeping stories or involving mechanics, Vanguards of the Last Lands is perfect for that little bit of Sunday afternoon escapism.

This game was originally inspired by the “house rules” takes on other RPG board games. The team at nightshade entertainment studios took this idea and turned it into a unique take on the RPG genre. Vanguards of the Lost Lands also uses global impacts and interlocking character traits to guarantee that no quest is like another. Guaranteeing ultimate replayability. We recommend prepping your die, putting on your favorite fantasy soundtrack and jumping into this epic quest as soon as possible!

During the pandemic, the team behind Vanguards has been able to create a playable demo on Tabletop Simulator! Check it out here! Also, be sure to keep an eye out for their Kickstarter and eventual game release later this year!

2. EOS: Island of Angels

Awaken angels, test their virtue, and defeat demons

EOS - Island of Angels On Tabletop Simulator Asymmetrical World Building Board Game

Eos - Island of Angels from King Raccoon games is an exciting board game, but it's also an immersive experience that draws you into a fully realized world with a rich backstory, world-building, and internal lore. In this 2-5 player engine builder, players hire a unique, asymmetrical crew and set sail to the island of EOS, to free the angels of old and leave their mark on this mythical world's chronicle. As they journey across this land, players must employ a combination of fast-paced strategy, worker-placement, and engine building to survive the voyage, defeat vicious demons, and claim victory. This thrilling premise and the rich world are paired with an asymmetric play style, guaranteeing that you can play through this epic saga again and again!

EOS - Island of Angels was imagined as a fast and exciting, engine builder that balanced deep and fulfilling world-building and an accessible story. The team at King Raccoon Games achieved this balance and the result is a fun and easily playable board game that will have you invested in the fate of EOS for months to come! These rich storylines and fully developed characters are represented in a detailed art style that will help transport you to your own ship, on your own voyage to save EOS.

As a small studio, King Racoon Games has used Tabletop Simulator to playtest and tweak EOS to perfection. Be sure to check out their fully playable mod here!

3. Secret Societies

Use adaptability and instinct to outwit and outplay competing factions

Secret Societies On Tabletop Simulator Social Deduction Game

Some social deduction games are a great opportunity to absolutely crush your opponents with ruthless mind games and social pressure...but some are also mind bending mysteries where victory comes from smart play and clever deduction. Secret Societies from designer Kyle Weaver is a deduction game that manages to be both experiences! In this hybrid drafting/social deduction board game, the world is controlled by the powerful Order who is fighting to keep control of their sacred and powerful scrolls from the machinations of several other factions. Using a simple drawing mechanic, players must organize and create secret societies of citizens with loyalties to multiple factions. As each game progresses, players must use special ability mechanics to manipulate the factions and each other to come out on top. This seemingly simple setup means that players have an unlimited selection of playstyles to choose from. This not only makes Secret Societies incredibly replayable, but also guarantees that you and your fellow players can decide which type of deduction game you want it to be!

Secret Societies was inspired by a simple challenge, to create a board game out of a bag of gems. This open-ended challenge inspired many of the adaptable rules and mechanics that allow Secret Societies to be such a wonderfully flexible gaming experience. And, from this simple starting place, a game of deep strategy, addictive replayability, and player choice was born! This inspiration is further elevated by a minimalist art style that keeps the very cards themselves shrouded in mystery.

4. Fray: Champions of the Every-Verse

It’s time to join the fray

Fray Champions Of The Every-Verse On Tabletop Simulator

Who would win in a fight between a Samurai and a Gladiator? How about a Pirate and a Vampire? How about a Viking and a Wizard? These questions can be answered in Fray: Champions of the Every-verse from Brain Sandwich Games. In this miniature skirmish game, players take on the role of the Watchers, mysterious and enigmatic figures who pit champions from different universes in a winner take all contest. This exciting premise is paired with a unique resource system that governs attacks, tools, and abilities that can then be used to crush your opponents. The result is a game with a deep strategy and a truly, one-of-a-kind theme.

Fray: Champions of the Every-verse was conceived as an alternative to the time commitment and intensive rulesets of the standard war games. The team at Brain Sandwich wanted to take that epic battle game experience and distill it down to something quick that can easily be played multiple times in an evening without all the intensive setup and finally answer that age-old question, “who would win in a fight?” This desire is paired with a detailed game design that is guaranteed to make your role as a Watcher feel all too natural. Put together, Fray is the perfect game for wanting to destroy a few historical figures on a Tuesday afternoon!

Brain Sandwich games has used Tabletop Simulator to overcome the issue of long-distance work and create a beautifully crafted mod here!
